We Didn’t Give Up on Sky

This is Sky. Someone put this sick little kitten in a box, taped it shut, left her outside in front of a veterinary office, and then drove away. When the staff opened the box, they found a frightened, sick kitten with a severe rectal prolapse.
A prolapse is a painful condition where the rectum protrudes outside the body. Left untreated, the exposed tissue can quickly become damaged, infected, or lose its blood supply, making it a true medical emergency. Sky was so sick that along with the prolapse, panleukopenia (panleuk) was suspected, and the decision was made to euthanize her.
But one veterinary technician looked at Sky and couldn’t give up on her. She said, “No" and found help. This one act of compassion changed everything for Sky. A St. Francis volunteer immediately picked Sky up and rushed her to Best Friends Animal Hospital & Surgical Center By the time they arrived, her prolapse had worsened dramatically, extending nearly four inches outside her body. Even though the hospital was closing, the incredible veterinary team stayed late to perform emergency surgery to save her life.
The surgery was successful. Then came another devastating blow. Sky tested positive for panleuk, it's one of the deadliest diseases a kitten can face. It attacks rapidly dividing cells, devastating the immune system and intestinal tract. Kittens often need intensive supportive care, including fluids, medications, syringe feeding, and constant monitoring, just to have a chance at survival.
Sky is now with a St. Francis special medical foster, healing from emergency surgery while fighting panleuk with everything she’s got. Specialized medical fosters are so important! They provide the around-the-clock care these fragile kittens need during the most critical days of their recovery.
Please keep this little warrior in your thoughts. If you’d like to help kittens like Sky, your donations make emergency surgeries, lifesaving treatment, and specialized foster care possible.
