St. Francis Society Animal Rescue has been serving the Tampa Bay community for almost 30 years as a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are committed to humane, effective programs that save animal lives and create lasting change. In addition to foster care and adoption, we are one of the few area rescues that practice Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) to humanely manage community cat populations and reduce their environmental impact, plus colony management to keep cats and communities healthy. We proudly take in animals with critical medical needs that other organizations cannot. Every life we save reduces shelter intakes, prevents euthanasia, improves environmental health while lowering public costs.
In our warm weather means year-round breeding as well as the spread of parasites and disease. An unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce over 50 kittens in a year, and those female kittens can result in more than 1400 kittens the following year! Compounding the problem, there is limited access to affordable spay/neuter options, and our rates of sterilization and vaccination remain low. This combination causes rapid population growth and places increasing strain on shelters and municipal resources.
